The Mitacs Globalink Research Internships (GRI) is now accepting faculty project submissions for Summer each year. Faculty submission of Projects will be due by June 8, while application by students is due by September each year. The call for student applications for the summer of the next year’s Internship will be launching in summer of current year. Top-ranked undergraduate students interested in participating in a 12-week research internship in Canada’s top Universities can apply from any. All Disciplines from science, engineering, and mathematics to the humanities and social sciences are accepted.
Research Internship Description
Mitacs Globalink Research Internships are a competitive initiative for international undergraduates from the following select countries and regions: Australia, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Mexico, South Korea, Taiwan, Tunisia, Ukraine, United Kingdom and the United States. Only top-ranked applicants will be participating in a 12-week research internship from May to October of each year, under the supervision of Canadian university faculty members in a variety of academic disciplines, from science, engineering, and mathematics to the humanities and social sciences.

Faculty Eligibility Criteria
For Faculties to be eligible for hosting interns as part of the Globalink Internship program, you must:
- Have one of the following statuses at an eligible institution: Full professor, Associate professor, Assistant professor, Adjunct professor, Emeritus professor.
- Be able to supervise international students at your institution.
- Be able to host interns within the stipulated dates of the GRI program: Internships must between May 1 and July 31 and must be delivered over the course of 12 consecutive weeks.
Matching process and evaluation criteria
- Project proposals are submitted to Mitacs, reviewed, and upon acceptance, entered into an online database.
- At the time of application, students must select a minimum of three and a maximum of seven research projects from the online database.
- The Mitacs Research team scores each student application based on criteria including, but not limited to, CGPA, research experience, reference letter, funding constraints, etc. and ranks students based on their score.
- A shortlist of students is generated for each project based on their selection and their score.
- Faculty are invited to review shortlisted student applications and to contact students to conduct interviews. Faculty and students review and rank one another for a possible match.
- Mitacs collects the feedback from faculty and students and determines suitable matches based on the student’s and professor’s rankings and other factors, including the student’s score.
Logistics and student funding
Mitacs partners with partners oversees to provide full funding to successful students for the following:
- Flight and student visa reimbursement.
- Accommodation and daily stipend.
- Medical insurance for the duration of the internship.
- Coordination with host institutions’ administrative offices to ensure a smooth arrival and registration process.
- Selection of a Globalink Mentor to assist with tasks including picking up students from the airport, escorting them to their residences, organizing social events, and acting as an emergency contact.
- Professional skills courses.
- Opportunities such as conferences, workshops, industry expos and tours, as well as other networking events.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants for the Mitacs Globalink Research Internships (GRI) must:
- Be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.
- Be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or combined undergraduate/master’s program at an eligible institution (see list of eligible institutions by country).
- Have one to three semesters remaining in their program as of Fall of application year.
- Meet the grade requirements for their country of study (see GPA requirements for each international partner).
- Apply to a minimum of three and a maximum of seven projects and ensure selections are from at least three different Canadian provinces.
- Be fluent in the oral and written language of the project (English and/or French).
- Be available to complete an internship lasting 12 consecutive weeks between May 1 and October 31.
Globalink Research Internship alumni interested in returning to Canada for graduate studies are eligible for the Globalink Graduate Fellowship.

Application Procedure
Candidate are advised to review the Mitacs Globalink Research Internships cycle and important dates on the table provided on the Application page before they apply.
Mitacs encourages you to start working on the following before the call opens:
- Review all eligibility criteria: in addition to the general GRI requirements, there may be specific eligibility criteria for each country and international partner organization.
- Confirm that your passport issued by your home country is valid until at least January of Internship year.
- Obtain a reference letter from a professor. Please download the reference letter instructions. All reference letters must follow the instructions provided.
- Update your CV: You can submit your own CV or download the Mitacs template.
- Obtain your academic transcripts (in either English or French). If your university or institution cannot provide transcripts in either language, you are responsible for getting them translated and notarized. Transcripts must be included in your application.
- English or French language proficiency tests may be required for some countries. Please check your country’s details for more information.

- Your academic discipline, program, and other educational information.
- Your research interests, skills, and achievements.
- Your reasons for pursuing research in Canada.
