The DAAD Leadership for Africa Scholarship to study a Master’s Degree programme is now open to African students who are nationals or refugees from East African countries or West & Central African countries. The eligible applicants who must have acquired a Bachelor’s degree can apply to any Master’s programme of choice in Public Universities in Germany.

Award Benefits
DAAD will support you during your study experience in Germany both financially and professionally. Prior to your arrival, you will have information seminars on how to apply at German universities for a Master’s degree programme, preparation throughout the pre-departure phase, e.g., seminars for your arrival in Germany as well as during your language course in Germany as orientation.
The DAAD Leadership for Africa Scholarship includes:
- Language course (up to 6 months) in Germany before the start of the university studies.
- Tuition-free M.A. or M.Sc. degree programme at a public or state-recognized university in Germany starting in Winter Term 2025 (September/October 2025).
- Additional mandatory training programme LEAD!
- Specific information about the values is published in the call for application.

Master’s Study in any discipline of your choice.
Place of Study
Any Public or State-approved University in Germany.
Eligibility Criteria
There are two major categories of DAAD Leadership for Africa Scholarship available. Students are free to choose programmes suitable to them in any of the categories:
- Highly qualified refugees who hold refugee status and fulfil the necessary qualifications for Master studies in Germany and the requirements in the call for applications.
Applicants must fulfil the following conditions: - Holding refugee status in their host countries, being granted before 2nd of April 2023.
- Highly qualified graduates from any of the selected countries in the East, West &b Central African countries who fulfil the necessary qualifications for Master studies in Germany and the requirements in the call for applications.
- Applicants must fulfil the following conditions: East Africa
- Citizenship of either Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan or Uganda
- Country of residence Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan or Uganda
- Completed Bachelor’s degree
Or foe West & Central Africa:
- Citizenship of either Benin, Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast or Mauritania
- Country of residence Benin, Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast or Mauritania
- Completed Bachelor’s degree
