Scholary Fund

The Wadsworth International Fellowships students undertaking study leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree at universities where they can receive international-level training in anthropology. The fellowships are offered every year. Applications are accepted by March 1 every year.

Award Value
The annual fellowship is $17,500 and can be used towards travel, living expenses, tuition, income taxes, student fees, insurance, books, research expenses and any other relevant categories of expenditure while studying at the Host Institution. The fellowship is renewable for up to two additional years upon successful completion of each preceding year’s study/training. A separate application can be made for an additional year of funding to support dissertation write-up.

Eligibility and Criteria

• Applicants must be from countries where anthropology is underrepresented and where there are limited resources to send students overseas for training. Normally, applicants will be under 35 years of age at the time they begin their fellowship.
• Applicants wishing to study anthropology at universities in their home country are not eligible to apply.
• Applicants must be prepared to demonstrate the unavailability of appropriate anthropological training in their home country and their reasons for choosing their Host Institution (the institution where they plan to study).
• The Host Institution must be of suitable caliber to provide international-level training in anthropology. It may be located anywhere worldwide but applicants enrolled in programs at top-ranked universities will be prioritized.
